With 40% of rural men being obese. Almost half of rural women are obese also compared to urban women. Obesity is when a person's BMI (body mass index) is 40 or more. Obesity in rural men was less than 3% in 2001 rose to almost 10% in recent years. Obesity in rural women rose from 6% to 14% in the same time period.
