Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study from the CDC. The study found that there has a been an increase in patients hospitalized for stroke in younger adults. Between 2003 and 2012 there was a 42% increase in men and a 30% increase in women hospitalized for stroke. Researchers believe this is due to an increase in risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity and smoking in this group.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a Chinese study. The study was looking at how the glycemic load affects a pre-diabetic patient's odds of becoming a diabetic. The study of almost 500 people that were diagnosed as pre-diabetic and divided into two groups. One group had a high glycemic load baseline the other a low baseline glycemic load. Finding those in the high glycemic load group as the load was reduced the chances of the pre=diabetic patient decreased risk of becoming diabetic. The was little to no change in the low glycemic load group.
