Pearls of Widom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study of open heart surgeries. French researchers studied nearly 600 people who had heart valve replacement surgery. Following them for 500 days to identify any major cardiac events such as heart attack, heart failure or death. Half of the patients had their surgeries in the morning and half had them in the afternoon. Those getting afternoon surgery had a 50% lower risk of a major cardiac event. Those with the later day surgery also had less heart tissue damage. Researchers believe this is because the later surgery syncs with the body's circadian clock.
