Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning canola oil. The article states that in 1956 the FDA banned it for human consumption because of high levels of erucic acid. Then growers developed genetically modified rapeseeds with lower levels of erucic acid. Changing the name to canola oil for marketing reasons and touting it as a healthy alternative to natural saturated fats from butter, lard or coconut oil.
