One group got a placebo the other group got 800 micrograms of folic acid (vitamin B9), 20 milligrams of vitamin B6 and 500 micrograms of vitamin B12 daily for two years. Brain shrinkage is associated with Alzheimer's and dementia. Using an MRI prior to the study and after the study. Those getting the vitamin B supplements had less shrinkage and has less cognitive decline compared to the control group.
