Looking at data from 2000 to 2014 the CDC cites 493 outbreaks of Cryptosporidium with 89% linked to pools, hot tubs and water playgrounds. Resulting in 27,219 illnesses and eight deaths. CDC also found that more than a third of the illnesses were from exposure to hotel pools.
