Finding that people eating foods rich in the carotenoid lycopene had a reduced risk of developing the metabolic syndrome. Found in fruits and vegetables that are red or pink colored. The metabolic syndrome is a collection of diseases the put people at risk of coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes and other life threatening diseases.
